Hey All,
I was thinking about my blog recently (yeah I know it's been dead since I started it over 1.5 years ago). I just started to read my friend Rob's Blog (Exit 55 - check it out in the links page - shameless plug) and began to realize that I too need an outlet (no pun - for those in the know!) to vent/express, etc.
Thinking back to why/when I started this - it was my honeymoon in July 2005. I was reading the Maui News and there was an article on Blogging. I read that blogging was then all the rage and said to myself "Self - I need a blog!" I ripped the article out, put in my suitcase and retrieved it once I got home. It sat on my desk for about a month (ahhh, wedding bliss) before I took action on it. Needless to say, I created this blog and then well it got old and dormant very quickly. I think I spent 2 days on it in total. Well, I'm back.......hopefully to stay/say for awhile. As the notation states, I will be posting only on Thursday nights but feel free to drop in, read, make comments and all that jazz......
Ok, next I am going to comment on the Yankees - and yes Rob (aka "High Priest of the Sack of Nuts"), while this should be a reply directly to your blog, I will address it here. :p
Bernie - cheated/slighted by the Yankees or a cry-baby trying to get his way? I look it like this. Yankees, Steinbrenner, and Cashman - You fucked up! Plain and simple. Here is a classy man who spent his whole career with class, dignity, was law abiding, role model material, drug-free, and didn't have that super-duper off the wall contract like someone at 3b and you throw him away like a piece of garbage. Shame on you. SHAME ON YOU!
How can you stand to look at yourselves when last season you had a spot for Ponson? Mr. Drunk and Drugs himself. Aaron Gueil? Was he even there. Bernie's position was giving to Damon and he played both LF/RF to be accommodating and didn't complain once. He brought you to the promise land 6 times and took 4 series titles home. This man should/will have his number retired with 42/6/2 in their time. Just very sad that it has come down to this.
Jeter/A-Rod - I think Zimmer summed it the best - the media here is trashing Jeter - what did he do wrong. Did he make the magazine comments? Did he force the Yankees to trade Soriano to get A-Rod here. No and No. Is Jeter the 1st one on the top step when A-Rod goes deep? Yes. Hey Media, give it up and stop short-stroking this....the hard-on is now flaccid.
As for retired numbers - I can agree with some and disagree on others. I believe that if you spend your whole career with the Yankees and have the numbers to prove it - you deserve to have your number retired.

Now for the exceptions:
- Ruth, the greatest player that ever played the game.
- Paul O'Neill - the warrior, played with his heart and soul every game (even when tornados were roaring down his street). He was the Yankees.....reminds me of Charles Oakley of the Knicks.
As for the others beyond the outfield wall, most were done playing and #'s retired before I was born. I will let others reserve judgment on that. But for the current Yankees or those who recently retired, I have spoken my peace.
